Ready to leave sales?

Not so fast!

Think you’re burned out on sales and ready to do something else?

Try this first to make sure…

Take out a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle.

At the top of the left column write “Hate”.

List everything that you absolutely hate about your current job in the Hate column.

At the top of the right column write “Like”.

List everything that you like about sales in general in the Like column.

Circle anything in the Hate column that’s inherent to sales. Things that will follow you into any sales role.

If there are more items circled in the Hate column than listed in the Like column, then yeah, start taking a hard look at pivoting your career.

If it’s about even, give or take an item or two, a shift in perception may help to get you energized to sell again. Pursue any and all forms of self help and therapy to see if you can find your fire again before throwing in the towel.

If you have considerably more items in the Like column than you have circled in the Hate column there’s good news!

You like sales, but you most likely hate where you’re working, or something about your current work style really doesn’t agree with you. Consider freshening up your resume and building a list of roles and companies that would get you excited.

Sales is an awesome job, but being a front line seller isn’t a career spanning role for most of us.

At some point, a career pivot will make sense for most of us.

Stay mindful of your thoughts and feelings to determine when to get out and what to do next.
