The secret to longterm success in sales
It may have been like 6 years ago or so when I read a post from Scott Leese that really stuck with me.
To paraphrase, he shared that what most sales people should do in their careers is figure out what they’re best at and enjoy the most, and just drill into that and become an expert in that niche.
At the time I was selling to companies with around 2,000 FTE and was dead set on crushing my number and promoting into Enterprise.
The thing was I was having 0 fun.
I really missed the fast action and linear sales in SMB, but it hadn’t occurred to me that you could have a successful sales career without selling Enterprise or moving into leadership.
I was dead wrong.
Ever since then I’ve been a big proponent of finding where you do great and have fun, and staying there and crushing it! Money and opportunities will find you.
I believe a lot of folks in sales are following a career path that doesn’t suit them, and that leads them to burnout, and unfulfillment.
You’re free to make your own rules and define success however you like!
